Brighton Mini Maker Faire 2012

Written by Rowan Stanfield

Back for a second year after its popular debut in 2011, Brighton Mini Maker Faire is returning with an even more eclectic lineup of crafters and makers.

With an emphasis on participation and 'learning through making' the event hopes to inspire visitors of all ages to get involved, have a go at making something, and hopefully learn a new skill. Everything on display will have been handcrafted by an amazing array of talented makers, who all love to share their inventions and projects. It's a great opportunity to see some of the creations that normally stay hidden in people's craft rooms, sheds and garages.

You're guaranteed to witness something you never imagined was possible, and to have your eyes opened to the vast possibilities of making.

Highlights include interactive arts & crafts, such as Pop-up Card Workshop, Etch-a-Sketch on Copper, Vintage Knitting, Guerilla Weaving and the chance to design and make your own Needlefelted Superheroes, while on the more technological end of the spectrum, our makers have come up with Giant Operation (the classic childhood game, with a life size robot mannequin), Mini Robot Wars (tiny battling robots that visitors can have a go at controlling) and Scalexercise (a Scalextric set controlled by the power of exercise). Those of a musical persuasion will be sure to enjoy the world’s only spoon based synthesiser, SpoonDuino, a robotic arm that plays the glockenspiel and the interactive Nomadic Sound System.
